TRAVELING TO ROMANIA
-
If you are scouting for Romania film locations and plan on shooting here, you should know that Romania is a very safe country. However, in Bucharest, it can get quite busy during rush hours and pickpocketers may take advantage of crowds. Extra caution is always needed when covering sensitive topics such as organized crime or illegal logging. In a nutshell, Romania is a safe country by European standards.

Romania has a temperate climate, with four seasons. Winter is in December, January and February and then every other season takes every three months. Weather gets below zero and snowy during the winter (from December to February) and really hot in summer, above 30 Celsius (June to August). If you plan on filming in Romania you also need to consider the average rainfall. November and April are the rainiest months.
GETTING A FILM PERMIT & FILMING IN ROMANIA
-
Compared to Western Europe, Romania is definitely more affordable. In our opinion, it offers better prices than neighbours like Hungary for similar services. Whether you are looking to hire film crew in Romania, rent gear and lighting equipment or use the services of an expert film production company, we can get you deals at local prices.
Besides affordable local talent and services, Romania also has a film incentive scheme for international productions: 35% cash rebate and if your project explicitly promotes the country, the rebate will be 45%.
-
You are on your way to film a TV commercial production or cover story and wondering how the locals will relate you. Romanian people are generally friendly and open to other cultures. Educated Romanians under 40 tend to speak good English so it will be easy to communicate. And in case you are filming in a remote village, a Romanian fixer will always be there for you to help with translation and local access.
-
If you are part of a European crew, you don’t need a work permit or visa to shoot in Romania, whether you are shooting a TV commercial, a documentary film or a music video. However, for non-EU residents, a Romanian visa will be needed. You can read everything you need to know about the visa here.
-
Getting a film permit in Romania is relatively easy, although there is no central authority to regulate it, therefore permits are tackled on a case by case basis. We generally recommend at least two weeks for getting the right approvals, although the time frame varies from place to place.
Whether you are shooting a documentary movie, feature film or TV commercial, we can help you get the film permit in Romania fast. When communicating with local authorities, in order to get you the film permit, we will need to specify the time and date of the shoot, the size of crew as well as any special equipment that may be used. Your film permit will arrive between two weeks and a month later. Make sure to get in touch with us before your planned trip to Romania so that you can already have your film permit when you get here.
